New Beginnings

I recently turned 19, and it made me really think about my life. It's a bit cringe-worthy.

I made a bit of a fuss over my birthday. I didn't want to turn 19, I dreaded it with no real reason in mind. I realize why now.

I dreaded becoming older because I was stuck, and had been for a long time. I was stuck in the same thought patterns I had been in, and I was acting the way I always had. I felt that the world was moving along at a quick pace, and I was stuck in the same position I had always been in. I feared it would always be that way.

I lost sight of who I wanted to be, and the things I wanted to do. I let myself fall into a pattern of always bending into whatever shape the people around me thought I needed to be in. Always doing the same things, acting the same way. I wasn't allowing myself to be myself. I was allowing the world to go on without me. But no more.

I don't usually make a list of New Year's resolutions, but this year I have. I know what I need to do now. I need to allow myself to be who I am without fear of being considered less than anyone else.

This is my list of the things I'll be doing in the coming year to embrace who I am.

1. Read at least one hundred books. I've fallen out of reading the last couple of years, but with the help of a couple of different challenges I hope to change that.
2. Get my business up and running. It's been a long time coming.
3. Learn to draw well enough to be accepted to, and hopefully receive a large scholarship from, a good art school.
4. Write the first drafts of three or four novels, and complete revisions on at least two of them.
5. Do something writing-related every single day.
6. Exercise often. I hope to begin taking dance lessons this year, and I need to build up my stamina.
7. Learn to read and speak Hebrew. I've been wanting to learn for the last couple of years, but never got much farther than a few basic words.
8. Become as neat and tidy as possible. I am a naturally messy person. I at least need to organize my mess. I'll settle for that.

I graduated a month and a half ago. My brother, Calen, graduated at the same time.

1901 Split Skirt

It's about time I finally finished this skirt! I'd say it's been about two years since I started it. I am glad it's finally done. It has made me feel very short, though. The pattern said the shorter length skirt was supposed to be calf length. I shortened it from that length so that it would be at my ankles and wouldn't trip on it, that there ended up not being enough room to add the last button at the hem. So there is currently an unused button hole visible. Oh well.

I have decided to join The Historical Sew Fortnightly. I missed the first two challenges. I thought I didn't have any UFO's at all, since I haven't done much historical sewing. It took quite a few days of thinking to realize I hadn't finish this skirt yet.
I unfortunately did not finish by the deadline, I had a problem in the hem that I had to fix today. It didn't take long though.
I haven't done much sewing lately, and I am so looking forward to the rest of the challenges!

The Challenge: #2, UFO

Fabric: 100% cotton, I think it was actually meant for quilting, but I was able to buy for under $2 a yard.

Pattern: Split Skirt

Year: 1901

Notions: Le Bouton 3/4" silver buttons

How historically accurate is it? Probably not very, if at all. Because to be honest, I have no clue whatsoever.

Hours to complete: Six or seven, at least.

First worn: Hasn't been yet.

Total cost: Maybe $30? Perhaps a little more.

My Latest Project

My Grandfather had asked me if I would crochet christmas stockings for his cats. He adores those cats!

Anyway, I had no idea where to even begin. So I searched Pinterest. My Mother even suggested a pattern, which was really cute, but a little too small. I decided on this one. Pinned here. I had pinned it previously, but the link wasn't direct. Anyway...

My Grandfather loved them! He said they were the perfect size. He especially loved the one on the far left, with the stripes. It's also my favorite.

I hope his cats like them. :)

MusicalTheatreAholic - Les Miserables

Hello there! 

Les Miserables is one of my favorite movies. It's up there with Fiddler on the Roof, The Phantom of the Opera, Pride and Prejudice, and all other works of Jane Austen, the works of Charles Dickens, etcetera, etcetera. I can't get enough of it. And if it's a musical? Die hard fan right here.

This cover for On My Own is pretty good. The woman is so funny, you must watch at least the beginning, okay?

Sarah Barks has an amazing voice. I love her as Eponine. The emotion she puts into her performance is stunning. I can hardly wait to see how she does in the movie. I'm sure it will be epic.

On a side note...

I have come to a conclusion recently. Nick Jonas is a terrible singer. Just listen to him. Okay, well, you may not want to do that. And his acting? Don't even get me started. But anyway. Moving on.

I am incredibly excited for the movie in general. I can't even attempt to describe it. Not because I have a hard time conveying my emotions, which I do, it's just that this movie is going to be so amazingly epic. I don't believe there will ever be another version made that can compare. Watch this video.

                    

It's going to be epic. Absolutely epic.
